Blogginlägg 5 - Cultural Event

One day there was a American football game in town. The two opposing teams were Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. The stadium was huge and there was alot of people there. We sat down and watched the intence game. We shared a bucket of Kentucky fried chicken and a big coke.
American football is much rugher and tougher sport then soccer. Tackling is allowed and the ball eleptical. There are more players on the field and you're only allowed to run or toss the ball forward. The players have very specific positions and tasks in the team. There are more breaks and time-out's in the game. The rules are quite complicated and ceeping score is also difficult if you're not used to the game.
The equipment is very different then soccer. They have helmets, shoulderprotection, mask and they pretty much cover the hole body.

In this post I choose to write about a normal trip to Walmart 'cause it's a little bit different then going to Ica.
We were going shopping just a ordinary day. Walmart is about 10 minuites from our house by car. So our Dad was at work and he had told us to go and buy some food. So we borrowed our stepmothers car and our Dad's credit card. If you didn't know my sister has her drivers licens in the US. cause there you are allowed to drive at age 16. So last year she spent the hole summer there taking her drivers licens. But it's a little different driving in the US. than in Sweden. In United States they have automatic gearbox and in Sweden they drive by stick. But I think my sister is a great driver. And the best part is we can have whatever radiochannel we want and just as loud as we want. Cause sometimes Dad doesn't like the music that we like.
So we got in the car and drove off. Turn the radio up, up and up. So we're singing as loud as we can to the lyrics.
When we get to Walmart we parked the car and went inside. It's alot bigger inside then what you think. We took a cart and started shopping.
We began at the fruits and vegetables. In the cart went two packs of strawberries and if you compare how much one pack costs in Sweden, witch is around 30 kr. In the US. you get one pack for 2 dollars. Wich here is about 16 kr. Then we took walk down to the frozen foods. We took a pack of corn-dogs (wich is a hotdog on a stick with cornbread wrapped around it), Ben and Jerry's ice cream, pizzarolls (wich is a tiny pizza rolled up). We also bought a 12-pack of Mountain Dew, it's a very popular soda and it tastes like sprite mixes with passion fruit juice.

At Walmart you can not only buy food, you can basically buy anything. So we looked for some clothes, but the American fashion is not as it is here. People in my age dress like I did when I was i 4th grade. So the only we thing we bought from the clothing department was underwear. In Sweden you get a bra for about 200 kr. at Walmart you can buy one for like 9 $ wich is about 54 kr.
We also baught milk. The milch pagage is a little different than here. They are like a big plastic can.
At the cashier the thing wich is different is that there are one person packing you groceries into plastic bags.
then we carried the bags to the car and went home.

Blogginlägg 3 - Being a tourist

One day my sister and I talked to Dad about going to New York City. So one day we got up around 3 in the morning and got in the car, I fell asleep immediatly in the back seat. New York - HERE WE COME! I don't now how long we drove but suddenly the car stopped and I waked up. As I looked around I knew we we're not in New York. Not even near of it. No skyline, no New York taxies. But what I could see was a Mc'donald's. Breakfast time!
We ordered breakfast wich was smoothies, egg, bacon, pancakes and more. Now I was wide awake and sat in the frontseat, singing along to the songs on the radio. It was a beautiful sunny day. I just wanted to get there! There was alot of line of cars. Everybody getting to work.

We drove, and drove, and then suddenly our Dad pointed and screamed. "There it is! New York City skyline!" Me and my sister looked at the city's skyline. We jump up and down in the car of excitement as we drove on the freeway heading towards New York City. Dad wasn't to excited though, he had been there several times.

Driving for another while and we were in Bronx. A New York suburb. People there are very poor and as we were looking at thier houses I felt very sad for thoose people. We went over the big Brooklyn Bridge (that I can't remeber the name of) and to the right we saw New Jersey and to the left, yes my dear friends, the big apple! When we FINALLY got there we parked near this park and first of all we were going to Elise Island and The Statue of Liberty. It was kind of a experience. Elise Island is where all of the people immigrated to the United States. So it was very intresting.
Sun was shining and we were having an awesome day so far.

After the first sightseeing we went to get some lunch and our way finding a small sandwich-place we stopped by Ground Zero. Dad wa s very quiet as we looked at the memorial things. Then we found a KFC where we ate. KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) is very American. You get a fired chicken with coleslaw, beans, macaroniese and cheese and soda.

Then on our walk to Empire State Buildning we did some shopping. What I learned from walking to Empire State Buildning was that if you look at the map you say "Oh, it's only a couple of blocks, we will get there fast". Well, the blocks are huge and it will take you a lifetime. When we were outside the biggest building I've ever seen in my life our Dad remebered us that it would be a long line in there and i might take us hours getting to the top.
We got in to the building and the floor and walls was made of marble. We got up a escalator and and Dad started to look around looking pretty confused. We asked him what was wrong and he said that he had never seen so little people. It took us 10 minutes to get to the top of the buildning and the times Dad was there it had took him hours. We got up in a elevator wich took us to the top of one of the tallest buildnings in the world. When we saw the view I couldn't believe my eyes. The sunny weather started to fade and we could see a major rain over Bronx. I felt I was on top of the world! Litteraly.

Then we walked to Times Square. WOW! That was AMAZING! Lights, sound, people, shops, restaurants.
We ate at a Subway right there.

Going back to the car I felt VERY tired. It was dark by the time we went home from the city that never sleeps. But my feet were sweaty and dead.
So we only spent a day in New York. I would like to stay longer but I'll be back bitches!

Blogginlägg 2 - Family Life

I woke up in the morning with the cover wrapped around my body. It was very hot. In the summer when I'm in the United States I only sleep with a cheat, because it's so hot and humid. I woke up around 9 AM, I usually don’t wake up until 12 AM but the jetlag woke me up. Jetlag is the time difference between the different continents. Between Sweden and where my dad lives is 6 hours difference.

My dad lives in New Hampshire and in the summer it's hot and it doesn’t rain very often. Mostly it’s sunny in the summer. I got up and got dressed. I took a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. A pair of jeans is basically to hot.

I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. My sister and my stepmother sat by the table and ate breakfast. My sister ate cereal filled with sugar and my stepmother ate sandwiches. My dad had already left for work. I opened the fridge and it’s filled with milk, juice, leftovers, and a lot of fruit. Strawberry’s, blueberry’s a melon. I take out the fruits and make a fruitsallad. Delicious! When I ate we talk about what we are going to do during the day. My stepmother is going to Marketbasket for grocery shopping.

My sister and me are cleaning our room and our bathroom then we’re free to do whatever we want.

We brushed our teeth and then we started cleaning. The vacuumcleaner is a bit special in the States because they have a lot of wall-to-wall carpeting. So we cleaned our room then it was only the bathroom left. The showers and the toilets have different design from Swedish bathrooms. The shower faucett is lever that you are supposed to turn and the toilet flusher is also of a different design.

When we're done with cleaning i go out in the garden to do some sunbathing. We don't have a pool so i use the waterhose to cool me down. Then when our stepmother got home from Marketbasket she started to make lunch. She made pizzarolls.
Then after lunch my sister and me took our Dads secound car and drove to Marshall's. At Marshall's you can buy clothing, perfume, shoes and much more.
I've been to the states alot of times but the prices always makes me speachless. We baught clothes and perfume then we went home. If you drive in the states is not unusual if you smell a skunk. Euw!
When we got home Dad was allready standin' by the grill flippin' burgers and steaks. Yum! We sat down by the dinner table and ate. For dessert we had malts and S'mores. Smo

I don't have any sources I choose a day from last summer and wrote about it. And the picture is on my house in United States. The picture is taken by my sister. I don't have any facts so I didn't use any sites.

Blogginlägg 1 - Holiday

Ï was in the United States during 4th of July. We celebrate 4th of July cause it's the independence day. 1492, Columbus discovered United States. After that alot of people moved there in hopes of getting a better life. People from all over the world came to the states, so it was alot of different cultures there. Til' a start it was only the indians living there. But with all of this immigration the question came - who's country is this? This question led to wars between native americans and the settelers. And then later on wars between north and south states.

4th of July is celebrated in memory of America becomming independent, 1776, from Great Britain and the signing of The Declaration of Independence which is a very important document in the history of the US.

Independence Day celebrations often take place outdoors. The special food is either barbecue or having a picnic (or a combination of the two of them). We decided to celebrate Independence Day in Maine, cause my Dad said that there was gonna be some pretty awesome fireworks in the evening. We came to Maine in the middle of the day. We laid on the beach, did some sunbathing and did some swimming in the sea even though the water was very cold.

Then at lunch time we had made some sandwitches that we ate on the beach, just as a picnic. We drank the typical American soda-pop Mountain Dew.

By the time the fireworks began, it was packed with people everywhere. We stood in the dark around all the people waiting for the fireworks to begin. Suddenly the black sky turned purple, pink, green and every color you can imagine. The fireworks were shooting for 30 minutes at least. I’m sorry Borås, but I have not seen that amazing fireworks even on New Years Eve. It wasn’t even close.

After the fireworks we went back to the car in the crowd and drove home.
